Second Chance Points (SCP):
Second Chance Points give players a limited ability to change an unfortunate outcome before it becomes final.
They do not guarantee success, remove danger, or protect a character from the consequences of poor decisions. Instead, they give the player a chance to influence fate when the cost is worth paying.
Starting Second Chance Points:
Every player character begins the game with: 3
Each time the character advances a level, the character gains:
+1 Second Chance Point.
Maximum SCP: None.
Once spent, Second Chance Points are permanently lost.
USING SECOND CHANCE POINTS:
A player may choose to spend Second Chance Points when an applicable situation occurs.
1 SCP:
Allows a player to reroll a common dice-roll in an attempt to gain a better outcome.
The new roll determines the result, and CAN be rerolled AGAIN by expending yet another SCP.
2 SCP:
Allows a player to automatically negate a "Sudden-Death" strike, lowering it to a normal hit.
The Sudden-Death effect is negated, but the attack itself is not.
The character must still defend, avoid, take damage, apply armor, or resolve any other required game mechanics normally.
3 SCP:
Allows a player to automatically negate an "Annihilation-Strike", lowering it to a normal hit.
The Annihilation-Strike effect is negated, but the attack itself is not.
The character must still defend, Avoid, take damage, apply armor, or resolve any other required game mechanics normally.
OTHER USES OF SECOND CHANCE POINTS:
Second Chance Points may also be used in situations not specifically covered by the standard uses above (Game Masters discretion on the situation vs. the SCP a player needs to expend to manipulate the outcome).
The number of points required should reflect:
* Situational Severity.
* Degree to which the outcome is being changed.
* The advantage the player character would gain.
Example:
A small change may require only 1 SCP, while preventing or altering a much more serious outcome may require several SCP.
Note:
The Game Master must tell the player the required cost before the player decides whether to spend the points.
The player may always refuse the cost and accept the original outcome.
PLAYER CONTROL:
Second Chance Points belong to the player. The Game Master may never spend a player's Second Chance Points without the player's permission.
When Second Chance Points may be used, the Game Master should inform the player of the option before the applicable outcome becomes final.
The player then decides whether the outcome is worth the cost.
Second Chance Points change only the outcome they are spent to affect. They do not erase the encounter, remove other consequences, or make the character immune to danger.
A character who reduces a Sudden-Death Strike or Annihilation-Strike to a normal hit may still be seriously injured or killed by the resulting normal attack.
A reroll may still failk, but expending yet another SCP might help.
A manipulated outcome may still carry other reasonable consequences determined by the Game Master.
**Second Chance Points give players influence over fate—not immunity from it.**
